What is Autism?

Autism, or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), is a neurodevelopment condition, marked by repetitive and rigid behaviors, limited or intense interests, and challenges with social interaction and communication. It has an impact on a person's thoughts, behavior, interactions with others, and communication. Because the features and intensity of symptoms can differ greatly from person to person, it is known as a spectrum.

In Africa, Autism is often misunderstood or misdiagnosed. In some communities, it's still wrongly associated with spiritual causes or superstition. That’s why awareness and education are so important — to replace fear and stigma with understanding, support, and inclusion.
